His Story
"I've walked these streets for over twenty years."
Jeff Onderko moved to Lahaina in 2002 and built his life along the same streets that would be devastated by the August 2023 wildfire. Front Street, the South end of town, Puamana, the Sharkpit neighborhood, the Harbor area and numerous dog walks & golf cart rides through town — these weren't just routes. This was and still is home.
When the fires came, Jeff watched himself and the community he loved lose nearly everything. When it was time to come back to Lahaina town, Walking was the answer. It was personal, it was visible, and it was normal. It was a way, an opportunity to connect.
He founded Steps for Lahaina with a simple idea: restore normality by walk the streets of Lahaina everyday possible, pledge money for every mile, and invite the world to walk alongside him. Every step is a statement that Lahaina is still here — and that its people are still moving forward.
